JACKSON -- In 1999, shortly after he learned his wife was pregnant with twins, Davis Frye's father was diagnosed with ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

The news deeply affected Frye, whose father, Coleman Frye, was, he described, "a vivacious man and a constant encourager who lived life with intensity."
