Thirty local elected officials, senior municipal staff and school administrators from 14 cities and school districts gathered in Nashville, Tenn., on Feb. 1-2 for a leadership academy on combating childhood obesity through school wellness plans. These plans, which focus on promoting nutrition and physical activity in schools, are requirements for all school districts participating in federal school meals programs as of the 2006 to 2007 school year.

NLC's Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute) hosted this event in partnership with the American Association of School Administrators (AASA), with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
