What difference does one china rabbit make? What difference does one person make? What is the value of love? These questions, and many others, are faced by toy rabbit Edward Tulane. Despite the devotion his child owner, Abilene, shows him, Edward is interested in little beyond his own comfort and beauty. Only Abilene's grandmother, Pellegrina, seems aware of his true nature. She commissioned his making, ordered his dapper clothing and smart pocket watch, and demanded a good deal more of Edward than he thought he wanted to give. Her warning, "You disappoint me," thrusts Edward into the adventure that becomes his life. Edward starts as a reluctant hero and ends up completely transformed, both on the surface and all the way through to his heart. "Once, oh marvelous once, there was a rabbit who found his way home."
