Carlsbad is a city in transition. With nearly $200 million in bonded school funds the plans are underway for lots of reconstruction and construction throughout the city. Carlsbad High School is busting at the seams with more than 3,000 students.

The choices were to rebuild and enlarge on the current campus or build a new school on a new site.

The school board opted for both; voting for a new school on a new site, and to rebuild the current school.

The Carlsbad Unified School District has more than 250 projects it intends to take from plans to completion.

The new high school is the biggest ticket at more than $83 million, followed by the rebuild project at $80 million.
