Jan Jacobs, the head coach of the Cottage Grove girls basketball team for the past 12 years, has decided to step down.

`I'm drained and exhausted,' said Jacobs, an eighth-grade language arts and social studies teacher at Lincoln Middle School. `I can't do it all. I need to take better care of myself, other people, and other demands in my life.'

Jacobs, 46, guided the Lions to nine straight appearances in the Sky-Em League playoffs, compiling a conference record of 84-48, including a berth in the OSAA Class 3A state tournament at Gill Coliseum in 2001.

In her first three years on the job, Cottage Grove was a member of the Midwestern League where the Lions went 16-38.
