Rarely do graphs - or school board meetings, for that matter - trigger oohs and aahs.

They did this time.

Northwest Suburban High School District 214 Superintendent Dave Schuler kicked off his portion of last week's school board session with a colorful PowerPoint overview of teens' academic achievement; among the charts was one that compared just-in results of 2006's standardized tests with those taken in 2004.

The difference: Far more subgroups (45 or more teens who share an ethnicity, income level, special need or language ability) met set benchmarks last time around than in 2004.
