Transport, logistics and, sometimes, even combat flying duties, are not always carried out from permanent peacetime airfields, so the UK's Royal Air Force (RAF) needs to be able to operate out of remote and temporary airfields at very short notice to be affective as a Rapid Reaction Force. In order to carry out this specific task the RAF has awarded ADB a contract to design and supply a TransportabLe Airfield Ground Lighting (TAGL) system that will allow it to quickly deploy a temporary AGL system to any location in the world.
The system is designed for a 14,763ft (4,500m) runway but it also has the capability for 19,685ft (6,000m) of taxiway and apron edge lighting. The number of items included in the package is considerable and includes:
