PITTSBURGH -- Allegheny Technologies Inc., Pittsburgh, is again expanding to meet the needs of the aerospace industry and other markets that use titanium and nickel-based super-alloys.

ATI's board of directors has approved a $215-million expansion of its facilities in the Carolinas that handle these metals. The capital investment is expected to be spread over three years, with the project to be substantially completed by the end of 2009.

The addition will serve not only the aerospace and defense industry's jet engine and airframe needs, but also the electrical energy, medical, and oil and gas markets.
