Bob Harris, chairman of this year's United Way campaign, could be forgiven for thinking he's taken on a tough assignment. Last week the United Way of Lane County announced it had raised $5.9 million in its 2006 campaign, the first time the $5 million mark had ever been exceeded. Topping that achievement looks like a daunting challenge, considering that the total for the year before was $4.8 million. A similar increase would put the goal for this year at $7 million.
