Oregon already was working on the challenge of UCLA at Monday's practice, even with the five starting players excused from being on the court.

The starters only participated in stretching with their teammates, then did their conditioning on stationary bicycles before a cold-water whirlpool. Reducing their practice time created additional time for academics.

`They all need to get some extra time in study hall with these two (consecutive) weeks of travel,' UO coach Ernie Kent said. `We wanted to let their legs get extra rest and get them in study hall.'

The Oregon reserves were on the court for less than 90 minutes, to move them into study hall earlier, too.

`This is good for these guys, to get the extra time in' with the coaches, Kent said. `You can get rusty sitting on that bench.'
