With this issue I begin a three-year appointment as Editor of this journal. I thank the Executive of the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association for their trust in placing the Editorship of the Canadian Review of Sociology and Anthropology in my hands. That said, it is the nature of academic publishing that papers are accepted well in advance of their publication. Thus, all of the papers in this issue were accepted by the previous editors, Marilyn Porter of Memorial University and Jane Helleiner of Brock University. Marilyn and Jane served respectively as Sociology and Anthropology Editors during the past three years. As Marilyn was unable to carry out her editorial duties for part of this period, for a time Jane had to shoulder the total editorial task. Both deserve our gratitude for their professionalism, good scholarly judgment and sound management skills.
