While other teenagers were filling grocery sacks at the local grocery store, Denton Gibbes spent time at a local cemetery, digging graves and cutting grass.
"I'd show up every morning at 7 a.m., and the crew of older men and I would listen to the obituary report on a local radio station," he recalled. "Within 30 seconds, we'd know what kind of day we were going to have. While I've never been scared of manual labor, I quickly realized the value of a job that wasn't dependent on somebody else's bad luck."
