- St. Charles East High School junior Nicole Alaniz, 17, died June 2 after the vehicle she was riding in was hit by a dump truck on Lincoln Highway. Alaniz played the piccolo in the school's marching band and enjoyed listening to punk rock music. She also captained the debate team and was remembered for having an outgoing, energetic and spunky attitude.

- Waubonsee Community College graduate Andrea Baker, 24, died in a car accident July 17 in the Windsor Pointe subdivision in Sugar Grove. Baker worked part-time in WCC's theater department and had key roles in multiple plays.

- On Oct. 31, 16-year-old Catherine "Kit" Becker of Batavia died suddenly of complications of Type I diabetes.

- Former Batavia mayor Robert Brown died Oct. 2 at the age of 79. He was mayor from 1969 to 1977, and had also served as a city alderman and the township's assessor.
