If you made a reservation through www.aa.com after Dec. 15, you might have noticed that your online booking bonus is half the usual amount.

That's because American Airlines has lowered the number of bonus miles for online reservations for a business- or first-class ticket. Effective Dec. 15, AAdvantage members earn 500 bonus miles for first- or business-class tickets (previously 1,000 miles) and 250 bonus miles for coach tickets.

With this move, American now offers the least amount of bonus miles for booking a coach-class ticket online. Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways offer 500 bonus miles, while United Airlines and Northwest Airlines offer 1,000...
