STARS OF THE GAME
Oregon State - Matt Moore, senior quarterback, Valencia, Calif. Moore was named by CBS as winner of the game's most valuable player award, completing 31-of-54 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns, with one interception. The four touchdown passes set a Sun Bowl record, breaking the mark of three, set in 1946 and tied eight times.
Missouri - Tony Temple, junior tailback, Kansas City, Mo. Temple rushed for 194 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns, second-most yards in Sun Bowl history, eclipsed only by Charles Alexander of LSU, who rushed for 197 yards on 31 carries in 1997; Temple had the record momentarily, but was thrown for a four-yard loss on his last carry.
KEY STAT
10-of-13 - Completions and attempts by OSU quarterback Matt Moore on OSU's last two drives, for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
TURNING POINT
Missouri's timeout - With 23 seconds remaining, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel called timeout to challenge a touchdown catch by Joe Newton; given the time to reconsider, OSU coach Mike Riley called kicker Alexis Serna off the field, and instead of kicking an extra point to force overtime, had the Beavers attempt the two-point conversion that won the game.
