We've got a full-scale revolution going on', boasts Anton Newcombe early in the rock documentary Dig! He is the film's dominant personality. By turns creative leader, petulant brat, violent bully, Newcombe heads the band the Brian Jonestown Massacre. And in the course of the film, as BJM falls apart like a slow-motion car crash, we get to see that he, at least, believes his statements are more than cock-rock posturing or radical chic. But the revolution, it seems, is almost completely restricted to style, except for the self-sabotaged industry gigs, where record company people look on as Newcombe punches the bass player or walks off stage mid-show.
