Encysive Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ENCY) brings insight to cardiovascular drug discovery. Flagship drug Argatroban is an anticoagulant used to treat heparin-induced thrombosis. GlaxoSmithKline markets the drug in the US and Canada. Encysive is also developing the drug for other indications, including ischemic stroke. Another drug in the pipeline, Thelin, or sitaxsentan, could treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. With Schering-Plough the firm is working on a therapy for asthma and multiple sclerosis. Revotar Biopharmaceuticals, a German biotech in which Encysive holds a majority stake, is working with the company to develop a potential drug for asthma and psoriasis.
