Wild Politics is both challenging and engaging from the outset. The title of the introduction gives some indication as to the enormity of the critique the reader is about to be thrust into: 'A Feminist Critique of Western Global Culture'. Hawthorne explains: 'Wild Politics involves re-examining every aspect of life and lifestyle, from ways of thinking and behaving, to the structures of politics and economics, to the ways in which humanity relates to the world, to other people, and to nature' (p. 27). But where to begin? While it would be easy to get lost in such a mammoth task, Hawthorne skilfully constructs her argument, linking power and knowledge, the globalised economy, the (ab)use of land, farming practices, production, consumption, work, and finally multilateral trade rules.
