It is time to dispel the image of Brazil as "the enemy" to the European Union, Christian Lohbauer, international relations manager for ABEF, the Brazilian association of chicken producers and processors, told the European trade assembly.

Lohbauer acknowledged his welcome from delegates, who clearly appreciated his articulate fluency in both English and German, and his involvement in current political and trade discussions between the EU and Brazil. "I think this could be the beginning of a new era in the relationship between our poultry businesses, " he said, adding that ABEF and AVEC should work for closer co-operation and find common interests.

"The International Poultry Council is one of the initiatives that could help enforce the position of poultry in relation to other meats, " he said, citing the positive reactions to the IPC's first annual conference in Mexico recently.
