Holiday revelers will enjoy the festivities of Christmases past and present as they gather once again in the villages of East Dundee and West Dundee this weekend for the communities' annual celebration, Dickens in Dundee.

Just two short months ago, it looked as though there wasn't a ghost of a chance that Dickens in Dundee would return for its 19th year, but holiday traditions die hard.

When the festival's former hosts, the Dundee Jaycees, disbanded this year due to low membership, residents of both villages stepped up to pull the thing together.

"I just didn't want to see it stop," said Peggy Fahy, who is co- chairwoman of the event with Rose Bendinelli.

"We've been here for about 10 years now, and it's just something my family has always enjoyed."
