Anadys Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ANDS) has hepatitis in the crosshairs. The company is developing new therapeutic treatments for those infected with hepatitis C (HCV), hepatitis B (HBV), and bacterial infections. Anadys is exploring the use of isatoribine, a compound it discovered that could stimulate the body to produce natural interferons to fight viral invaders. Its lead product candidate is ANA975, a prodrug of isatoribine, that could help patients with HCV or HBV. Novartis has signed on to help develop the drug. Another candidate, ANA380 (targeting HBV), is being developed with LG Life Sciences. Anadys Pharmaceuticals has licensed its drug discovery technology to such firms as Daiichi Pharmaceutical, Roche, and Amgen.
