THE U.S. Department of Agriculture recently proposed eliminating the requirement that federal- or state-licensed grain warehouses enter into a storage agreement contract with USDA's Commodity Credit Corp. (CCC).

In comments to the agency, the National Grain & Feed Assn. (NGFA) "generally supported" the proposal but also raised several concerns that need to be addressed before USDA proceeds with the change, the industry group said.

Overall, NGFA said USDA's proposal would be an end to "duplicative, costly and time-consuming warehouse examinations conducted by both federal and state licensing grain warehouses...
