Small beverage firms poised to profit from new school program.

As sugary drinks receive failing grades by the nation's schools, a need to replace them with healthy alternatives has spurred smaller beverage companies to come up with products that adhere to new guidelines.

WaddaJuice and Water Sensations, both based in Fairfield County, are looking to capitalize on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation's Healthy Schools Program.

Jordan Kerner, founder of Westport-based WaddaJuice, an all-natural fruit juice product blended with purified water, said he created the only product on the market of its type because he waters down the juices his two sons drink

"My goal was to create a watered-down juice with the best taste possible without using artificial sweeteners," Kerner said. "I wanted it to be pure, what every pediatrician would recommend and what the medical field would back."

Nina Riley, founder of Southport-based Water Sensations, a clear liquid flavor enhancer for water, is also hoping to see an increase in business as a result of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation beverage guidelines.
