When he gets home from trick-or-treating, Ray Krivanek spreads his candy out on the floor and divides it into piles: chocolate, gum and hard candy.
Not unusual, except that Ray is 35 years old.
Almost every Halloween since he was kid, Krivanek has put on a costume, gone door-to-door and held open a candy bag while saying "trick or treat!"
He always goes with kids, including his twin 10-year-old boys. Before they were born, he took relatives' or friends' children.
"I don't think I ever stopped trick-or-treating. I love this holiday," said Krivanek, who will dress as a bleeding skull phantom tonight. "I love candy. I'm a chocolate junkie like you can't believe."
Candy is only part of the appeal. Krivanek, a construction contractor, celebrates Halloween each year with an elaborate party for adults and kids in his Palatine home that features a live band, games and more than $300 worth of decorations.
