Little ladybugs and winged white angels rubbed shoulders Sunday afternoon with pink fairies and black-shirted goblins at one of the most exclusive Halloween parties in town.

This was the 29th annual Neonatal Intensive Care Unit reunion at Sacred Heart Medical Center. It may have looked like an ordinary kids' Halloween party, but here, the real celebration was about life beating terrible odds.

About 2,000 invitations went out to families of babies who have been cared for in the NICU since it was established in 1977 to care for high-risk newborns - typically babies born prematurely.
