BANDON - By any stretch of the imagination, Don Blackburn lives squarely in the sticks.

The only structure he can see from his 7-acre lot near the Bandon Dunes golf course is a small corner of his neighbor's house, a good 100 yards away.

But it's not the view Blackburn is concerned about at the moment. It's the sound of gunfire.

Last month, the Vietnam veteran said, he was "blown off my back deck" by a barrage of bullets echoing off nearby canyon walls. Representatives of the Tioga Sports Park Association were conducting a sound test, he found out later, for a 220-acre shooting range the company wants to build - a range that would be the largest on the Oregon Coast.

Blackburn suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome and the shots put him right back in Vietnam, he said.
