A tack to the south today has put Mike Golding in good spirits as he continues to keep ECOVER going at best speed through difficult squally conditions. He reported today that he has seen winds down to 10 knots but up to 35 knots as the squalls hit.

Mike had lost a few miles to Bernard Stamm whose advantage is still about 500 miles and despite claiming to be looking over his shoulder Kojiro Shiraishi regained 20 miles on Mike, but these losses are as much about relative angles to the course as boat speed or tactical gains and losses.
