October and November are always busy conference months for the information industry, but there seem to be even more offerings this year than usual. Here are just a few of the fall highlights.

Books

The world's largest book fair takes place Oct. 4-8 in Frankfurt, Germany. The Frankfurt Book Fair, which attracts publishers from all over the world, is a mammoth exposition of books as well as related materials of every description (http://www.frankfurt-book-fair.com/en/portal.php).

Will books survive in the present Digital Age? Will printed books be able to compete with digital versions? The Fourth International Conference on the Book, which is scheduled from Oct. 20 to 22 in Boston, will cover these questions and more. According to the Web site (http://b06.cgpublisher.com), the conference "will address a range of critically important themes relating to the book, including the past, present and future of publishing, libraries, information, and literacy and learning in the information society. Speakers will include some of the world's leading thinkers and innovators in the areas of publishing, editing, librarianship, printing, authoring and information technologies."

Society Conferences: ASIST, ACCESS, and LITA

The 2006 ASIST conference on Information Realities: Shaping the Digital Future for All (http://www.asis.org/Conferences/AM06/index.html) will be held Nov. 3-6 in Austin, Texas. The conference will feature a range of research-oriented topics in the information science field.
