State Sen. Vicki Walker and former Eugene Mayor Jim Torrey debated each other on Friday afternoon and the unofficial results are in: civility in politics 1, bare-knuckle brawling 0.

The candidates for the District 7 Senate seat took a couple of minor jabs at each other but for the most part stuck to answering questions asked in a session that lasted a little more than an hour.

As a result, the approximately 300 people who attended the debate, sponsored by the City Club of Eugene and the Lane County League of Women Voters, had a chance to assess the candidates' positions rather than their skill with the smart comeback.
