Steel yourselves, parents, because here comes the latest thing to worry about: Does your child have symptoms of the mysterious "nature-deficit disorder" that some believe is sweeping the land?

The malady is associated with children who have rarely breathed in the smoke from a campfire, watched clouds drift across a sky, climbed a tree or played with their friends in a vacant lot.

The bond between children and nature has been broken, according to Richard Louv, a California newspaper columnist.

Louv argues in his 2005 book, "Last Child in the Woods," that the U.S. child's changed relationship with nature has profound implications for his mental, physical and spiritual health.
