Women are making inroads in the world of financial services but are far from having equal footing with men, according to a recent study done on behalf of the Financial Women International Foundation.

Based on 2004 data, the study done for FWIF by William Carey College in Mississippi found that women occupy only 12.6 percent of executive positions in the nation's 50 largest commercial banks. That percentage was down from 16 percent in a 2002 study.
