Neighborhood National Bank, an extension of San Diego-based Neighborhood Bancorp, provides low-income communities and small-business loan services to people and businesses that may not be prime candidates to do business with larger banks like Bank of America.
The need for a community bank like Neighborhood National was spurred by the lack of service in the area, said Bob Adkins, chief executive officer of Neighborhood National Bank.
"If you drive along through the area, you'll see very few banks, whereas, if you drive through the metropolitan area of San Diego, you'll see many," Adkins said.
Southeast San Diego has a median family income of $46,634 and the poverty level is at 11.6 percent,...
