Laser treatment oversight bill gutted, OK'd by assembly.

Some local plastic surgeons are fuming that a California Senate bill that would have required a doctor's supervision for laser procedures has been "watered down."

"It doesn't mean anything now," said Dr. Mitchel Goldman, owner and medical director at La Jolla's Spa MD, one of the largest medical spas in the region with more than 80 employees.

Goldman, a cosmetic surgeon, said he sees at least a couple of patients each month who need corrective procedures to fix burns and other mistakes due to unqualified or unsupervised clinicians at other spas.
