July 29, 2005. A day I'll never forget. It was my business partner, Jeffrey Necaise's 44th birthday. Mid afternoon, his wife called. She said the doctor had diagnosed him with renal cell carcinoma. Cancer? I cannot be hearing her right. I listened in shock to her sparse details. I felt as if I had just gone three rounds with Mike Tyson. Questions raced through my mind. What are his chances? What will be his treatment? How is he feeling? Did we catch this in time? Then, my mind changed gears. What about his clients? I already have more than a full load. Who is going to do his work while he's out with his treatment? What does this mean to the future of our business? Gulp. What will we do if he dies?
