Michelin ordered to pay [pounds sterling]112 500 for industrial accident

Trent-on-Stoke, United Kingdom - Michelin Tyres plc was fined [pounds sterling]100 000 ([euro]146 300) and ordered to pay costs of [pounds sterling]12 500 by the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after a worker caught his hand in an industrial machine.

The tyre maker pleaded guilty in January to a breach of the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations which complies employers to prevent access to any dangerous machinery parts or stop the movement of the parts.

The Michelin employee, Kenny Beech, lost three fingers in September 2004 when his hand was caught in a machine.

A safety guard had previously been removed and other modifications made to the equipment which left a moving part exposed.
