Article Excerpt Healthcare's construction boom has a different meaning to about 300 employees of Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare in Louisville, Ky.
Four months ago, these employees launched a small but gratifying building project of their own, breaking ground with a local Habitat for Humanity chapter on an 1,100-square-foot, three-bedroom home for a Somalian family of nine. About 90 volunteers-hospital board members, physicians, nurses, administrators, accountants, maintenance workers and housekeeping staff, among others-raised the roof on the modest white home over one particularly productive three-day period. All told, at least 20 employees from the hospital system showed up every Saturday for 12 straight weeks, putting the final touches on the home earlier this month.
