Denim

Denim was built to last, but who knew that the humble indigo cotton twill would make an enduring impression on fashion? Its name is said to derive from the French serge de Nimes (abbreviated as "denim"), a silk-and-wool fabric produced in the town of Nimes. In the late 1600s, New England mills began manufacturing the all-cotton fabric we now know as denim, which was used for clothing that would take lots of abuse. During the gold rush, Loeb (Levi) Strauss started making and supplying clothing to miners, and Levi's became a staple for anybody who labored in bad weather and rough terrain.
