CORVALLIS - Matt Moore, the Oregon State quarterback with more than a little something to prove this football season, knows the story.

How little Eastern Washington, an NCAA Division I-AA outfit, skipped into Corvallis six years ago to take on the big, bad Beavers, not exactly a Pac-10 Conference power at that moment but a I-A team nonetheless.

How the Beavers, with famed coach Dennis Erickson calling the shots, struggled dearly.

How this David almost got the better of this Goliath.

"Football is football," said Moore, the senior who begins his attempt to reverse his misfortune of 2005 - a Pac-10 Conference-high 19 interceptions - when OSU and Eastern Washington tee it up at 7:10 p.m. for the season opener at 43,300-seat Reser Stadium. The game is not expected to be a sellout.

"It doesn't matter who you play. You'd better come out firing. I've heard the story about how Eastern came up here and almost beat the Beavers."
