A year ago, the winds and water of Hurricane Katrina ripped apart Jeff Hannah's home, livelihood and future.

Now, living in Eugene, Hannah wonders if the hurricane might just have been the best thing that ever happened to him.

"I've got a great job, a great house and a great girlfriend," says Hannah, 36. "I feel very grateful."

He's also acquired some other things since moving to Eugene: sobriety and self-respect.

The carpenter and former Navy diver says he's troubled by recent media accounts that seem to depict every Hurricane Katrina survivor as still suffering from the year-old storm. His own world has changed considerably for the better - a result, he says, of hard work, God's grace and the steadfast support of others.
