Apparently, there's still some confusion, so we'll try to make this simple.

Dusty Baker doesn't want to return.

You've known this for some time based on the hand grenades he throws at his bosses three or four times a week.

The Florida Marlins don't want Joe Girardi back.

You've known this for some time based on the fact that Marlins management has been leaking inside information in order to make Girardi look bad, campaigning to sway public opinion and torpedoing Girardi to pave the way for dumping one of the top candidates for manager of the year.

So if the Cubs want Girardi to replace Baker, it won't take more than a couple of conversations.

Call it a resignation, a firing, a trade or compensation. Call him late for the news conference if you like, but Girardi will be available...
