Nature has been both a beauty and a beast to Jerry and Edith Cox.

They were drawn from Chicago to the Prairie Crossing conservation community in Grayslake for its open spaces and dedication to the environment.

"There was nothing not to love," Edith said of the unobstructed views and their home, a charcoal gray, farm-style structure on a high point in the neighborhood.
