As Richard Davidson cashes out as president of the American Hospital Association, he's leaving the Chicago-based hospital trade group on equally solid financial ground.

Both the 69-year-old Davidson, who is retiring at year's end, and the AHA enjoyed record years last year, according to the association's annual Form 990 filed with the Internal Revenue Service last week. Davidson's total compensation jumped nearly 35% last year to almost $1.9 million from about $1.4 million in 2004. Those figures include compensation, employee benefit contributions and expense allowances. The AHA attributed Davidson's increase to mandated payouts from his retirement plan.
