Roy Howell was in this situation as a player for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1977-80.

"During my four years in Toronto, we lost a lot of games in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings," the Eugene manager said after Spokane beat the Ems 7-5 Thursday night at Civic Stadium. "We got blown out once in a while because we were an expansion team, but we lost a lot of close games too."

Now Howell is in the same situation with the Emeralds, whose past seven losses have been by two runs or less. In their past five losses, Eugene either led or was tied after seven innings before losing the game late.
