Over the past nine years, Allison Stokke's life has revolved largely around gymnastics.
Then, in March, she quit.
"It just wasn't fun for me," Stokke said.
At the urging of her friend's dad, Stokke had checked out track and field in October, and really began to focus on the pole vault after she left gymnastics.
As Thursday afternoon's action indicates, Stokke has made a flawless transition.
Stokke, competing for the Higher Flyers out of Huntington Beach, Calif., cleared 12 feet, 6 inches to easily win the Intermediate Girls (15-16) pole vault and set a national record at the USA National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.
