It's Friday afternoon and I'm sitting in a brand new Sikorsky S-76B jet helicopter flying over the Canarsie section of Brooklyn at 140 knots and looking down at literally acres of taillights on the Belt Parkway 1,000 feet below. Giddy with the satisfaction that I'm beating all those poor hapless motorists to the airport, I gaze out the window as the familiar terminals of Kennedy International slowly come into view. After an eight-minute flight from downtown Manhattan, I arrive in style on the helipad at the brand new American Airlines terminal in plenty of time to make the 5:00pm check-in for my flight back to Los Angeles. "Man, this is the way to travel", I think to myself. Well, that's what must have jinxed it. Five hours later at 9:30, I'm still on the ground.
