Don't start singing the blues over the Delta and the manufacturing sector just yet. The region has lost some manufacturing jobs, but all things considered, 2004 hasn't been too shabby a year so far.
Of the largest new facilities announced in the state to date, including both manufacturing and non-manufacturing operations, Textron Fastening Systems, a $35-million project in Greenville that is expected to create an estimated 500 new jobs, and Faurecia ($12 million, 250 jobs) in Cleveland rank first and second, respectively, in terms of new jobs created.
And the manufacturing coups have continued. IBPS Manufactured Homes is locating a plant in Rosedale. Colonial Bag Company in Clarksdale has expanded. And Biodiesel of Mississippi Inc. is putting a chemical plant in Marks.
However, no Delta community has been shining brighter lately than Greenwood.
