Article Excerpt If some staff members at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., seem a little stiff while directing visitors where to go, they can be forgiven-after all, they're made of cardboard.
Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dave Robertson, faced with the task of helping visitors find their way through a huge expansion project over the next three years, hit on the idea of using almost life-size cardboard cutouts of some staff members holding directional signs. The $97 million project includes a five-story, 193,000-square-foot building that will double the hospital's size.
"When you're moving everything around, it's important from a customer service perspective for people to know where they need to go,'' says Marketing Director Greg Kealey. "The response has been overwhelmingly positive-not only the style but the substance.''
