KENOSHA, Wis. -Just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, Pat Fitzgerald emerged from the Sports & Activity Center, turned left and strolled down a hill toward the fields below.

"I know that walk with my eyes closed," Fitzgerald said.

He negotiated that path as a freshman linebacker in 1993, the first year Northwestern held training camp at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Thirteen summers later, Fitzgerald returned to familiar surroundings but under unfamiliar circumstances.
