Sometimes it may feel as if the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) makes recommendations or develops guidelines that are contrary to supporting normal birth in the United States. However, in the last six months they have issued several new releases making recommendations that are supportive of normal birth. It is good to focus some attention on positive changes that are taking place in the birth world, no matter how small.

ACOG Recommends Restricted Use of Episiotomies
Washington, DC -- The use of episiotomy during labor should be restricted, with physicians encouraged to use clinical judgment to decide when the procedure is necessary, according to a new Practice Bulletin published by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in the April issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
