COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Brady Kirkpatrick, 14, of Eugene will make his third and final trip to the Hershey's North American track and field meet in Pennsylvania this week. The incoming Marist High School freshman won the softball throw event at the Hershey's state meet at Hayward Field in June with a meet record of 250 feet, 3 inches that would have won last year's national championship. But as a baseball player with North Eugene's American Legion A-level team, Kirkpatrick hasn't had a measured softball throw since. The pitcher/catcher/outfielder, who previously competed in the Hershey finals at ages 10 and 12, had his best national finish two years ago, placing fourth. The program includes only ages 9-14, so regardless of finish, 2006 is Kirkpatrick's final appearance at the Hershey meet.
